A Collection of Rarities and Previously Unreleased Material is the first compilation album by American lo-fi musician John Maus, released on July 12, 2012. Spanning recordings from 1999 to 2010, the collection selects outtakes from his previous three albums in addition to tracks which had appeared on other compilations. All tracks written by John Maus.

The most anticipated event-album of 2011 was a sound-the-trumpets supergroup record of a magnitude scarcely seen. What could have been a crash-and-burn anticlimax turned out to be as fun as any record in a dog's age. From the cinematic "No Church in the Wild" to the Stax-soul update "Otis," Throne testifies to Kanye West's genius for beats both iconoclastic and pop-savvy.

The band was formed in Los Angeles, California in 1996 by three high school friends, Mike Shinoda, Rob Bourdon and Brad Delson. The group later expanded to a six-piece when they added Joe Hahn, Dave "Phoenix" Farrell and Mark Wakefield to the line-up. Mark Wakefield was later changed to lead vocalist Chester Bennington.

For his first album of originals in seven years, trad-country torchbearer Yoakam had the inspired idea to call on Beck to produce a couple of tracks. The result, in A Heart Like Mine, hits you like a linebacker – a ringing, clattering blend of Buck Owens-style California country and Sixties garage psychedelia. This synth-pop nugget is one of the greatest songs of the Great Recession: My partner called to say the pension funds were gone, sings Michael Angelakos with barely suppressed panic. Then the bright, upwardly mobile chorus kicks in, and you are reminded why pop songs exist: to help mute the pain.

Taylor Swift is an American singer-songwriter. She signed a record deal with Big Machine Records in 2005 and released her eponymous debut album in 2006. Swift wrote three of the album's tracks: "Our Song", "Should've Said No", and "The Outside". The remaining eight were co-written with writers Liz Rose, Robert Ellis Orrall, Brian Maher, and Angelo Petraglia.

The album is built around narratives of self-empowerment and tragedy transcendence typically found in disco and house music- a line like "you’re more than a superstar," from torchy first single "Laura" could have come from the mind of the Scissor Sisters’ Jake Shears. On both "Lilies" and the rumbling warrior chant "Horses of the Sun", she proclaims joy at simply being alive. This is an album of love songs by a band that until now would’ve never dared to say the word. Its darkest moments- "Offspring are Blank", "About to Die", and "Gun Has No Trigger"- are cautionary tales by young people fighting against time to hold onto their innocence. Prior to 2011, Andy Stott was workmanlike, both literally- he painted cars for a living in his native Manchester- and artistically.
