Maurice André (born 21 May 1933 in Alès, France, and died 25 February 2012 in Bayonne) was a French trumpeter, active in the classical music field. He was professor of trumpet at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique in Paris where he introduced the teaching of the piccolo trumpet including the Baroque repertoire on trumpet. André inspired many innovations on his instrument and he contributed to the popularization of the trumpet.

The baroque trumpet is a musical instrument in the brass family. Invented in the mid-20th century, it is based on the natural trumpet of the 16th to 18th centuries, but designed to allow modern performers to imitate the earlier instrument when playing music of that time. Often synonymous with 'natural trumpet', the term 'baroque trumpet' is often used to differentiate an instrument which has added vent holes and other modern compromises, from an original or replica natural trumpet which does not.

Maurice André, musician, educator. Recipient Prix d'Honneur for trumpet, Chevalier de al Légion d'Honneur, Commander des Arts et des lettres, 1st prize Geneva International Competition, 1955, Munich International Competition, 1963, Schallplattenpreis, Berlin, 1970, Victoire de la Musique, 1987. Maurice André has performed and recorded all the great concertos of the trumpet repertoire with the most illustrious conductors of his time. He is generally recognized by his peers as the greatest classical trumpet player of the century. Not content to limit himself to the standard Baroque trumpet repertoire, André also performed many transcriptions of works for oboe, flute, and even voice and string instruments. These recordings were (and remain) very popular, and were a strong component of the rebirth of interest in Baroque music in the 1960s.
