Kicking Giant feels right at home blasting from the garage of your precocious neighbor. The band recorded and performed as a duo, sans bass player, resulting in songs sounding thin or in the moment. Drummer Rachel Carns used a stripped down stand-up kit, built around a central floor tom, so power percussion isn’t in the cards here either. The vocals throughout Halo, aside from the tracks built around spoken, poetic deliveries are breathless, recorded with a sketchy ear from production
