But "Calypso Is Like S. .awesome! Fun would be the word I'd use to describe the listening experience, and surprising. I won't get into the debate of authenticity but I like this album a lot more than the Harry Belafonte folk albums of the same period. I've read that Mitchum spent time working in the Caribbean and loved the culture and especially the music. With this album, he not only paid respect to that culture but added to it's richness. I'm very fond of unusual musical combinations, and so when I saw Robert Mitchum connected to Calypso, it was right up my alley! Mitchum actually does a really credible job, musically, and the songs are great.
