The quartet creates a shadowy, guitar-heavy sound that blurs the lines between rock and pop while musing on Manchester's darker aspects, like the city’s burgeoning violence and growing unemployment. The opening song, Disko Killers, levels distorted vintage guitar tones with a propulsive rhythm.

In fact Lowline have no self-control when it comes to the band that led to Control. They even have a song called Sound Of Music, the title of a pulverisingly intense piece of JD music. The Sound of Music was conceived when Laibach were infamously invited to perform in North Korea in 2015. The band performed several songs from the 1965 film’s soundtrack at the concert in Pyongyang, chosen by Laibach as it’s a well-known and beloved film in the DPRK and often used by schoolchildren to learn English.
