Cocoa Brovaz is a Brooklyn based hip hop group consisting of members Tek & Steele. Originally known as Smif-N-Wessun, they ran into legal issues with Smith & Wesson Firearms after the release of their first album Dah Shinin'. To avoid the lawsuit, they decided to change their name to the Cocoa Brovaz in 1996. In early 1998, they dropped their second album The Rude Awakening under this name.

The Rude Awakening is the second album from rappers Tek and Steele, their first under the name Cocoa Brovaz. The duo was forced to drop their original name, Smif-N-Wessun, after they were sued by the Smith & Wesson firearms company. The lead single from the album was "Black Trump", which features Raekwon of the Wu-Tang Clan

LP (12" album, 33 rpm). Cocoa Brovaz Format: Vinyl. I hate to say it, but Smif-n-Wessun (the Cocoa B'z) amount to very little without the Beatminerz backing them. I mean, the vocal styling are similar to the "Shinin'" days, but without that right production, the lyrics get lost.
