Remedy is the debut studio album by English electronic music duo Basement Jaxx, released in May 1999 by record label XL. The album was very well-received critically, and reached number 4 in the UK albums chart. Four singles were released from the album: "Red Alert", "Rendez-Vu", "Jump n' Shout" and "Bingo Bango". When Basement Jaxx first rose to stardom, the duo was unsatisfied with the state of dance music, describing it as "linear" and "close-minded".

Rooty" is Basement Jaxx's real claim to fame, with bouncing beats, classy disco synths and cool bleeps and bloop sounds littered everywhere. Although Felix Buxton and Simon Ratcliffe's first album, "Remedy" sounded hot and sexy, it was missing a certain cosmopolitan nocturnal vibe. It was missing the hot vibe which made house and Eurobeat excellent. Their sophomore album, "Rooty," delivers just that. The first song, "Rooty," sets people up for the bouncing dancefest, with thumping bass beats and Kele Le Roc's sassy voice. Perhaps "Rooty" is a little bit too freaky, but anyone in the mood for freaky dancing will love this album to death. Although Basement Jaxx hasn't quite reached this artistic height in their succeeding albums, "Rooty" made them into electronica legends.
