Movement No. 7 of the work, Träumerei, is one of Schumann's best known pieces; it is the opening and closing musical theme of the 1947 Hollywood film Song of Love, and Träumerei is the title of a 1944 German biographical film on Schumann. In Russia, the piece became known as mourning music, being played annually during the Minute of Silence. Originally called Leichte Stücke ("Easy Pieces"), the section titles were only added after the completion of the composition, and Schumann described them as "nothing more than delicate hints for execution and.

Johannes Hendrikus Philip "Hans" Kindler (January 8, 1892 – August 30, 1949) was a Dutch American cellist and conductor who founded the National Symphony Orchestra. He was married to painter Alice Kindler. Kindler was born in Rotterdam as the child of Johan Karl Eduard Kindler (1838–1899) and Johannetta Filippina Maria Hanken. Kindler made his public debut aged 10 and took first prizes in cello and piano at the Rotterdam Conservatory in 1906
