The Shaggs were an American all-female rock and outsider music band formed in Fremont, New Hampshire, in 1968. The band was composed of sisters Dorothy "Dot" Wiggin (vocals/lead guitar), Betty Wiggin (vocals/rhythm guitar), Helen Wiggin (drums) and, later, Rachel Wiggin (bass). The Shaggs were formed by Dot, Betty and Helen in 1968, on the insistence of their father, Austin Wiggin, who believed that his mother had predicted the band's rise to stardom

Philosophy of the World is the only studio album by the all-female teen rock group the Shaggs, released in 1969. The Shaggs comprised sisters Helen, Betty, and Dorothy (or "Dot") Wiggin, from Fremont, New Hampshire, USA. They were managed by their father, Austin Wiggin, J. and were sometimes accompanied by another sister, Rachel. They performed almost exclusively at the Fremont town hall and at a local nursing home, beginning in 1968 and ending in 1973.

A Chicago DJ (Steve Dahl) championed this band in 1979 on WLUP playing their songs to a bewildered morning drive audience (including the 14 year old author of this post) garnering them probably the biggest audience they had enjoyed. The Shaggs, who had some material written by Dorothy "Dot" Wiggins, were far from a proficient band when their father drove them to a studio in Massachusetts. The entire album was recorded right there on the spot in just one day. This was due to Austin's request who wanted his daughters to record "while they were still ho. He also got in contact with a shady record company named Third World Recordings and The Shaggs were ready to drop their debut album. And this was the result of their hard work

The Shaggs were an American all-female rock group formed in Fremont, New Hampshire, United States in 1968. The band was composed of sisters Dorothy "Dot" Wiggin (vocals/lead guitar), Betty Wiggin (vocals/rhythm guitar), Helen Wiggin (drums), and later Rachel Wiggin (bass). Today, they're known as a key part of the outsider music movement.

The Shaggs were four teenage girls living in Fremont, New Hampshire, in the late 1960s, who were forced to form a band and play music by their insane father. With no training and no apparent understanding of music theory, the girls came up with music that defies categorization. Their one album, Philosophy of the World, recorded in 1969, sounds like nothing that has come before it or since. The girls' sense of rhythm stands outside the parameters of mathematics and the vocal harmonies they employ so closely follow the guitar lines that it creates a weird atonal quality

The Shaggs' debut album was not what most people who have heard music before would consider good. It was, however, undeniably unique. Soon after the marathon practices began, he had the girls record an album called Philosophy of the World. Despite the long rehearsal hours, the album was not what most people who have heard music before would consider good. Dot sang off key with bizarre pauses that made it seem almost as if she were reading the lyrics for the first time.

The Shaggs released one album, Philosophy Of The World, which must rank among the most polarizing LP's of all time. Some said it was the worst thing ever made. Frank Zappa famously was said to have dubbed it better than The Beatles. In 1968, three sisters from Fremont, New Hampshire strapped on their instruments and declared themselves The Shaggs. At that moment begun a peculiar tale that would last far beyond the group’s five-year run. Dot, Betty and Helen (and occasionally Rachel, the fourth sister) played in the group on the insistence of their father, Austin Wiggin, who was convinced they were going to be bi. .
