Cottam is proud to present the first release on his new label, Ruff Draft. The EP is completed with 'A Variation on a Theme', a gem of a deep house groover with beautiful chords and acid that creeps up and sidles its way behind and around you before pinching your wallet and necking your drink. The first release on Ruff Draft sets a high standard, pressed on 180 gram vinyl and cut loud. Keep a look out for further transmissions in the near future, from Cottam and other artists as they keep it deep and keep it Ruff.
Ruff Draft is a studio album and EP by American hip hop producer and rapper J Dilla released under the moniker "Jay Dee". It was originally released in February 2003 as an EP, by his then-newly founded label, Mummy Records, and distributed by Groove Attack, a German record label. In 2007, Ruff Draft was extended, remastered, and posthumously re-released as a "solo album" by Stones Throw Records. The re-release sold 8,049 copies in its first week, J Dilla's largest first-week sales as a solo artist.
Cottam - Ruff Draft 01 Speaking to teshno earlier this year, Paul Cottam announced plans to start a new record label. A follow-up to the long defunct Cottam, the self-titled label that launched his career in 2009, Ruff Draft begins with three smoggy deep house and techno cuts from the UK producer. A far cry from the merry afro-house he made his name with, Ruff Draft 01 captures Cottam in a pensive mood. Lost In My Brain Fog," a reference to his on-going battle with multiple sclerosis, appears in two separate versions.
RUFF DRAFT 08. 12" Vinyl UK. Ruff Draft, Ruffdraft 08. a1Washed Out. b1Horns. Ruff Daft returns, and after a various artist EP for number 7, number 8 on the label goes back to the founder, with three new tracks from Cottam Washed Out kicks things off, at the cross roads between Mood Hut & Basic Channel where dub techno sensibilities meet dreamy chords for a delectable deep house track. Horns harks back to Cottam s earliest releases, with an afro-ish horn loop teased out over four minutes until the full loop and bass kick in to devastating effect
Ruff Draft is an EP-album by late, highly acclaimed hip hop producer-rapper J Dilla, released in 2003 through Stone Throw Records. It was released exclusively on vinyl before a 2007 reissue. One of Dilla’s least known projects, Ruff Draft was a response to his other project at the time The Diary being shelved by MCA Records. As a result, the album was recorded and mixed in only a week. Stylistically Ruff Draft showcases some of Dilla’s more experimental work, much of which he would imitate on his most recognised and adored efforts as a solo artist on Donuts.
