Jason & the Scorchers, originally Jason & the Nashville Scorchers, are an alternative country band that formed in 1981 and are led by singer/songwriter Jason Ringenberg.
With the release of Thunder and Fire, Jason & the Scorchers should have been set for the top. Unfortunately, that didn't happen. They broke up instead. But the record they left behind does have its moments. Hard-hitting rockers like "Now That You're Mine" and "6 Feet Underground" fit snugly alongside "Close Up the Road," a country-tinged weeper and "Bible & a Gun" which recalls the best things about the roots-rock movement of the late '80s.

Jason & the Scorchers weren't quite the first band that attempted to fuse country and punk rock, but no one before them (and precious few since) did it in a way that honored what was best about both genres. While Jason & the Scorchers made their recorded debut with an indie EP in 1982, it was the 1983 EP Fervor that won them a contract with EMI-America and gained them an international audience, and this two-fer CD pairs up Fervor with the group's first full-length album, 1985's Lost & Found, and you'd be hard-pressed to find a.
