Le Rouet d'Omphale (The Spinning Wheel of Omphale or Omphale's Spinning Wheel), Op. 31, is a symphonic poem for orchestra, composed by Camille Saint-Saëns in 1871. It is one of the most famous of the four symphonic poems in a mythological series by Saint-Saëns.

Saint-Saëns: La Jeunesse d'Hercule, O. 0 by Philharmonia Orchestra and Charles Dutoit. Aside from the "Danse macabre" which has been played to death, Dutoit conducts a delectable "Le rouet d'Omphale", and an exciting "Phaeton" - who takes over the Sun God's Chariot to disasterous results. The programme also includes "La juenesse d'Hercule" where we find that growing up is a hard thing to do. Sumptuous playing from the Philharmonic Orchestra makes this a good library addition, falling into the "Music for Fun" category.
