The Tchaikovsky Symphony Orchestra is a Russian classical music radio orchestra established in 1930. It was founded as the Moscow Radio Symphony Orchestra, and served as the official symphony for the Soviet All-Union Radio network. Following the dissolution of the Soviet Union in 1991, the orchestra was renamed in 1993 by the Russian Ministry of Culture in recognition of the central role the music of Tchaikovsky plays in its repertoire
Acclaimed conductor Vladimir Jurowski leads the State Academic Symphony Orchestra of Russia in the opening release of their Prokofiev cycle for PentaTone. The centrepiece of this album is the rarely performed Symphony No. 2 in D Minor, a self-consciously modernist work that Prokofiev wrote while in Paris in the 1920s. It is paired with the Symphony No. 3 in C Minor which drew material from the opera The Fiery Angel, making for a satisfying programme performed with gusto by these world-class musicians. 96 kHz, 24-bit PCM and . 224 MHz DSD – PentaTone Studio Masters.
