Most songs on the album were Demis Roussos' old hits (including two that he recorded as a vocalist with the band Aphrodite's Child). The first 8 tracks (the whole side 1 and tracks 1–3 on side 2) were recorded live during "Goud van Oud Live" on April 10, 1987 in Rosmalen. Another 7 tracks (tracks 4–5 on side 2 and the whole side 4) were from the Demis Roussos' 1986 album

Demis Roussos is a double LP by Greek singer Demis Roussos, released in 1987 on the label BR Music Another 7 tracks (tracks 4–5 on side 2 and the whole side 4) were from the Demis Roussos's 1986 album Greater Love. As was the case with The Story of Demis Roussos, the album Greater Love was released on the label BR Music. The album The Story of Demis Roussos spanned three singles in 1987: "Rain and Tears" (a live recording from the above-mentioned concert in Rosmalen, Holland), "Marie Jolie", and "It's Five O'Clock". All the three were covers of Aphrodite's Child hits from the time Roussos was in the band.

An epic rendition of "House of the Rising Sun" brought Demis back full circle to his Greek cabaret roots. 1984 found Vangelis and Demis teaming up once again for "Reflections", an entire album of cover songs from the two Greek friends' past. To make the reunion more complete, Silver Koulouris was featured playing guitar. In 1987 Demis made his comeback with "The Story of Demis Roussos", in which he re-recorded several Aphrodite's Child and solo tracks utilizing the digital technology of the day. His new versions of "I Want to Live" and "Break" were particularly poignant with Demis breathing new life into the lyrics. There were several new songs, including "Island of Love" which became a popular hit.

Artemios Roussos was born on June 15, 1946 in Alexandria, Egypt, and died on January 25, 2015 in Athens, Greece. As George and Olga’s first son, he was of Greek extraction. Three years later, his younger brother Costandinos, was born. He recorded twenty songs and compiled an album called "The story of Demis Roussos". With this album, Demis started to world tour again and found a nostalgic audience who had missed his magic voice. In 1986 Demis toured the USSR for three weeks and was invited to join important scientists, writers and artists at the forum for peace and disarmament in Moscow, during February 1987.
