Rumer's debut album Seasons of My Soul was released on 1 November 2010, produced by her mentor, British composer Steve Brown. Her debut single, "Slow", was featured on Smooth FM, and the single "Aretha" on BBC Radio 2's Record of the Week feature, and she is signed to Atlantic Records  . The majority of Boys Don't Cry was recorded at the same time as, or before Seasons of My Soul, but two weeks before the deadline Rumer.

Rumer is an award winning British pop singer songwriter whose hit debut album Seasons of My Soul (2010) sold over a million copies worldwide. Her most recent album Into Colour (2014) saw Rumer’s return as a songwriter. Rumer, who has been called heir to Dusty Springfield and Karen Carpenter by Q Magazine, has earned raves for her live shows across the globe. Rumer has already dazzled audiences in England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales, Amsterdam, Sweden, Denmark, Germany, Belgium, Switzerland as well as Japan and the USA. Rumer's success has seen her perform for President Barack Obama at the White House, as well as HM The Queen at Buckingham Palace.

Musically, Seasons Of My Soul is influenced by Rumer's upbringing, which takes in a childhood spent in an enclosed, exotic expat colony in Pakistan. Here, her family would often sing and write songs together, determined to provide their own entertainment in the absence of TV or newspapers. Then, they relocated to the New Forest, where Rumer first saw a television, and married her love of the folk tradition with the sweeping melodies of the technicolor movie musicals.
