Arcane Device is the sometimes recording name of musician David Lee Myers (born 1949). With the discovery of Feedback Music and the release of his first LP in 1988 he established the name Arcane Device. He has collaborated with musicians such as Asmus Tietchens, Tod Dockstader, Marco Oppedisano, Tom Dimuzio, Ellen Band, Dirk Serries, and Kim Cascone.
I just remembered an oddball cassette I allowed someone to release called "Feedback In Turmoil" (SSS Records SSS35), which documented a performance in Pittsburgh (at the "Termoil Room") when the "shoebox" Feedback Machine blew up-I mean smoke came out-and it was pretty bad. Their power connections were weird; the machine was never the same.
Calling himself Arcane Device after his recorded experiments became popular enough to warrant a name, David Myers' exploration into manipulated feedback resulted in several album and cassette-only releases beginning in 1987 and ending in 1994, when he felt the experiment had run its course. Myers came of age during the era of the Beatles and formed a rock group like hundreds of other teenagers during that time
