It's My Life is the second studio album by English band Talk Talk, released in 1984.
Talk Talk was an English pop and rock band formed in 1981, led by Mark Hollis (vocals, guitar, piano), Lee Harris (drums), and Paul Webb (bass). The group achieved early chart success with the synth-pop singles "Talk Talk" (1982), "It's My Life", and "Such a Shame" (both 1984) before moving towards more experimental music in the mid-1980s, pioneering what became known as post-rock.
Missing Pieces is a 2001 compilation album by Talk Talk. The first six tracks are the A- and B-Sides of the three CD singles released in 1991 for their final album Laughing Stock. Four of these are versions of album tracks, with the addition of the otherwise uncollected B-Sides "Stump" and "5:09"
Talk Talk’s first truly epic exercise in melancholy – although Have You Heard the News? was a decent first draft – Renée integrates touches of Roxy Music’s lush grandeur, the Cure’s glowering angst, Simple Minds’ dreamy elegance and Kate Bush’s ECM experiments. Caught between bitterness and affection, Hollis relays the home-town tale of a girl he cares for being played by some local lothario, but really he is encapsulating the pain of lost innocence and the ebbing of youth. Almost heroically uncommercial, the album horrified EMI, which saw its cash cow wandering over the hill to the abattoir. However, in the three decades since, its status as a post-rock landmark has grown.
Hey hey hey Well, did I tell you before when I was up? Anxiety was bringing me down I'm tired of listening to you talking in rhymes Twisting around to make me think you're straight down the line. All you do to me is talk, talk Talk, talk, talk, talk All you do to me is talk, talk Talk, talk, talk, talk All you do to me is talk, talk. If every sign that I see is complete Then I'm a fool in your game And all you want to do is tell me your lies Won't you show the other side, you're just wasting my time. Talk Talk is Talk Talk’s second single, featuring as the opening track to their debut album The Party’s Over. The song describes a tense relationship with someone who has cheated on the narrator – the narrator in question is fed up with dealing with this person and all their constant arguing.
Picking up where Spirit of Eden left off, the album operates outside of the accepted sphere of rock to create music which is both delicate and intense; recorded with a large classical ensemble, it defies easy categorization, conforming to very few structural precedents - while the gently hypnotic "Myrrhman" flirts with ambient textures, the percussive "Ascension Day" drifts toward jazz before the. two sensibilities converge to create something entirely new and different on "New Grass
