Here Slim tries to convince a woman that she needs his love. He’s known for his lover in pain image and while you can find traces of it here it’s a much more positive tune than some of his later, darker songs. I also like There’s a place in the sun which is about as upbeat as Slim Smith ever will get and very uplifting. These could easily become boring and washed out but Slim put’s his own spin on them and with a voice like his it’s very hard for any song to fail no matter which one it is. As said Slim is known for his tortured lover persona (that most likely his mental status contributed to) but his first album is rather light and easy going with only traces of the darkness his later material would showcase. I totally adore anything ever recorded by Slim Smith and this album is no exception.

Slim Smith - Do You Love Me Slim Smith was blessed with one of the most haunting voices in Jamaica - soft, but with astounding power, yet shot through with an astonishing vulnerability that added to the emotional impact of every song he sang. He took the Techniques to fame, then did the same with the Uniques, while at the same time also recording as a solo artist (although usually backed by members of his current group). Includes unlimited streaming via the free Bandcamp app, plus high-quality download in MP3, FLAC and more. Purchasable with gift card. 1. Slim Smith - Born To Love 02:51. 2. Slim Smith is the greatest lyricist to come out of the Jamaican music scene at the time. Produced by Duke Reid . When Smith had success in The Techniques, Riley hung around with the group hoping to join, but was limited to carrying things for them and helping out with harmonies. He decided to form his own group, The Sensations, along withCornell Campbell, Buster Riley (brother of The Techniques' Winston Riley), and Aaron "Dego" Davis. It’s a superb album featuring the great vocalist Keith Slim Smith.
