I've often heard Accentus Austria playing Johann Joseph Fux's sonatas in their concerts. I imagine ladies and gentlemen dancing in a royal court in baroque style when I hear them. Every second piece of this CD is a Praise for the Virgin Mary sung by Hana Blažíková, a Czech soprano, with her beautiful voice.

Johann Joseph Fux served for many years as the imperial court’s Kapellmeister in Vienna, and is one of the best known and most important composers of that period. In times of the most fervent religious faith, during which the Habsburg Emperor considered piety the foremost virtue of a ruling sovereign as well as indispensable as the basis for organizing society, the roles of the Kapellmeister and court orchestra were of essential importance. This new release includes wonderful Ave Regina antiphons in outstanding performances by soprano Hana Blažíková.

Hana Blažíková (born 2 December 1980) is a Czech soprano and harpist. She is focused on Medieval, Renaissance and Baroque music, appearing internationally. She has recorded as a member of the Bach Collegium Japan, among many others. Born in Prague, Blažíková earned a degree in musicology and philosophy at the Charles University. In 2002, she received a diploma in vocal performance from the Prague Conservatory where she studied voice with Jiří Kotouč.
