Luis de Pablo Costales (born 28 January 1930) is a Spanish composer belonging to the generation of Spanish composers named by Cristóbal Halffter as Generación del 51. Luis de Pablo was born in Bilbao, his complete name is "Luis de Pablo Costales" but after losing his father in the Spanish Civil War, he went with his mother and siblings to live in Madrid from age six. Although he started to compose at the age of 12, his circumstances made it impossible to consider an artistic career, and so he studied.

As an homage to de Pablo's role both as an advocate for saxophone music and as a composer who writes frequently for the instrument, the CD contains three of his works and three works other composers wrote for the Grupo Sax-Ensemble. Each of the pieces is intriguing, but de Pablo's stand out for their strongly idiomatic but creative writing for the ensemble and for their sly wit. His three-movement Rumia for saxophone quartet is a model of musically inventive humor at its most sophisticated.
