Back from the Grave is a series compilation albums of 1960s garage rock created and compiled by Tim Warren and released by Crypt Records. The series originally consisted of eight LP records released between 1983 and 1992. Volumes seven and eight were double albums. Starting in 1994, the series was reissued on compact disc. Due to the longer playing times offered by CDs, the first seven volumes were contained on four discs, save for a few tracks that were omitted

The second volume from Crypt Records' Back From the Grave series digs up more stylish, underground garage rock from '60s groups like Murphy & the Mob, the Fabs, the Hallmarks, and the Sloths. Red Beard & the Pirates' "Go On, Leave" is among the many high points on this uncompromising, entertaining garage sampler.

Back from the Grave, Volume 2 (CD). It was released on August 23, 1996.

The Sloths are now regarded as one of the great lost garage bands of all time. After a long hiatus, the band has reunited this year and will release their first full length album "The Sloths Back From The Grave" on Burger/Lollipop Records this spring. They're also heading out on tour including stopping by the Hi-Dive here in Denver on March 10! Alisha Sweeney talked with McLoughlin on re-living the band's teenage dreams five decades later as they ready their debut album. Listen to the interview above. About Alisha Sweeney.

Not coincidentally, Back From the Grave is the title of the band’s debut album, recorded 50 years after they first broke up and released earlier this year. The band was part of the vibrant Sunset Strip scene of the mid-1960s. The Sloths broke up by the summer of 1966 and went their separate ways for 45 years, during which McLoughlin did a variety of jobs in showbiz, including training as a mime with Marcel Marceau.

Back From the Grave was reserved for the bands that screamed a little harder, played with fuzzboxes (either store-bought or makeshift), and sought refuge in early Animals and Kinks records. The Gories cited the series as an influence, which makes a lot of sense (especially when you hear their cover of the Sloths' Vol. 4 highlight "Makin' Love"). By 1996, series curator Tim Warren was eight-for-eight in putting together albums full of forgotten but thrilling rock'n'roll  . After 32 years of putting together Back From the Grave records, Warren has exhumed another big batch of wild-eyed gems from the unwitting fathers of punk and contemporary garage rock.
