The Thorns is the only studio album by rock supergroup The Thorns. Released by Aware Records in 2003, it was produced by Brendan O'Brien following songwriting sessions by the three members before they officially became a band. Aware reissued the album in late 2003 with a bonus disc of the band performing the entirety of the album acoustically. The Thorns was a group that consisted of Matthew Sweet, Pete Droge and Shawn Mullins
This detour to prison pushed Snorre Ruch and his band Thorns into almost total obscurity for all this time, and even though Thorns was among the first handful of true Norwegian black metal bands (first forming in 1989, before Darkthrone had even released Soulside Journey), very few now know of him or his band. After release from prison in 2000 he was encouraged by fellow black-metalheads to write more music for Thorns. The album’s full of a lot of great, unique black metal that should make early 90s black metal fanatics fall in love.
Thorns is the debut studio album by Norwegian black metal band Thorns. It was released in 2001, through Moonfog Productions. The album features guest appearances from Satyr (of Satyricon), Aldrahn (of Dødheimsgard) and Hellhammer (of Mayhem). Stylistically, Thorns is quite different from both Trøndertun and the first Thorns demo, Grymyrk.
Country of origin: Norway. Snorre W. Ruch, Jon T. Wesseltoft, and Finn Olav Holthe from The Third and the Mortal have an ambient project closely related to Thorns called Thorns Ltd. and make music for art galleries and other art events. Compilation appearances: - "The Pagan Winter" on Darkthrone Holy Darkthrone (Moonfog Productions, 1999) - "Stellar Master Elite" and "You That Mingle May" on Moonfog 2000: A Different.
