The Bridge (Sonny Rollins album). The Bridge is a studio album by jazz saxophonist Sonny Rollins, recorded in 1962. It was Rollins' first release following a three-year sabbatical and was his first album for RCA Victor. The saxophonist was joined by the musicians with whom he recorded for the next segment of his career: Jim Hall on guitar, Bob Cranshaw on double bass and Ben Riley on drums.
Tenor saxophonist Sonny Rollins' first recording after ending a surprising three-year retirement found the great saxophonist sounding very similar to how he had played in 1959, although he would soon start investigating freer forms

During his Bridge sabbatical, Sonny Rollins could see the Domino Sugar factory everyday from his practice spot on the north side of the bridge. Jackie McLean, another member of the Sugar Hill Gang who later lived on the Lower East Side, also joined Rollins on the Bridge and saw Domino Sugar. Today, we welcome the new Domino Park in Williamsburg. Now you can walk up on the Sonny Rollins Bridge, look out at Domino Park, and retrace Sonny Rollins’ path from sugar mills to Sugar Hill to his view of the Domino Sugar factory. An album of previously unheard original compositions by the legendary jazz saxophonist has been discovered 55 years after its recording. Sonny Rollins Bridge Project.
Sonny Rollins + 3 is an album by jazz saxophonist Sonny Rollins, released on the Milestone label in 1995, featuring performances by Rollins with Bob Cranshaw, Stephen Scott (jazz pianist), Jack DeJohnette, Tommy Flanagan and Al Foster. This studio set captures the excitement of a Sonny Rollins concert and is highly recommended. The bridge may be the third eight-bar phrase in a thirty-two-bar form (the B in AABA), or may be used more loosely in verse-chorus form, or, in a compound AABA form, used as a contrast to a full AABA section. The term comes from a German word for bridge, Steg, used by the Meistersingers of the 15th to 18th century to describe a transitional section in medieval bar form.
Sonny Side Up is an album by trumpeter Dizzy Gillespie, and the tenor saxophonists Sonny Stitt and Sonny Rollins, recorded in December 1957 in New York City. It was released in 1959 on producer Norman Granz's newly launched Verve label. As Thomas Cunniffe has written, "The pairing of Rollins and Stitt was highly inspired.
