The underrated Hans Schmidt-Isserstedt is every bit a peer of the Olympian trio of Van Beinum, Jochum, and Klemperer in this concerto. 7 people found this helpful. Szeryng's reading of Beethoven's Concerto with Schmidt-Isserstedt and LSO was my first complete listening of this work. This is a leisurely romantic performance, lyrical and atmospherical. Szeryng conveys a great deal of the poetry with his pure lyrical tone. Like many other violinists, he seems so intent on drawing out an uninterrupted stream of melody that he cannot bring himself to play the staccato notes staccato, at least not in the first two movements. He plays the second one particularly well, and at this slow tempo the orchestra fits marvelously
