In the Heat of the Night is the platinum-certified debut studio album by American recording artist Pat Benatar, released by Chrysalis Records on August 27, 1979. The album debuted on the Billboard 200 the week ending October 20, 1979, peaking at No. 12 in March 1980. The album included her breakthrough hit "Heartbreaker" and the top 30 hit "We Live for Love". In Billboard magazine's 1980 year-end top pop albums chart, In the Heat of the Night was listed at No. 7.

Pat Benatar generated the lyrics for two songs: ‘My Clone Sleeps Alone,’ and ‘So Sincere. Her subject material shows a notable departure from the one-dimensional romantic appeal of previous artists. My Clone Sleeps Alone,’ describes the rift between the idealized image of womanhood and the reality; the clone has a spotless existence, while the actual woman is susceptible to mistakes and misfortune. So Sincere,’ portrayed a couple who are feverishly in love- to the point of stifling co-dependence. And we should be glad for that.
