Olias Of Sunhillow (Cass, Album). I thought this was a genuinely interesting album. I also think that Jon Anderson, like Steve Howe, spent way too much time working on solo material away from Yes which I think resulted in Yes albums like Tormato: which I didn't think was such a fascinating Yes album. Maybe they knew that and called it what they did deliberately. As in 'throw a tomato at it'-we did-kind of thinking
While there are several songs that could have easily fit in Yes' own catalog, and the lyrics continue to mine the mystical musings that Yes fans had come to enjoy, Olias of Sunhillow is not the missing Yes album some might hope it to be, though it does prefigure the later Jon & Vangelis collaborations of the '80s. If possible, pick up the LP version of this release, since the packaging is stunning and features terrific artwork by Dave Roe. Track Listing.
Olias Of Sunhillow is a music studio album recording by JON ANDERSON (Prog Related/Progressive Rock) released in 1976 on cd, lp, vinyl and/or cassette. Jon's best solo album. Written just after the 'Relayer' sessions, it features fabulous vocals and discreet instrumentation, both performed by Jon. The album is divided into many parts but all songs form a unit, a sort of concept-album. From the album cover to the music, everything is good. It may be classified as New Age, but Jon's vocals and music are much more ambitious than the average New Age artists.
Jon Anderson is revisiting Olias Of Sunhillow on its 40th anniversary, which also coincides with the release of Invention Of Knowledge, his collaboration with The Flower Kings’ bandleader Roine Stolt. The two albums are connected, and not just by having Anderson’s name on the cover. Invention Of Knowledge is another stage on its co-creator’s spiritual journey. The 71-year-old Jon Anderson still marvels at the power of nature and the human mind, just as he did four decades ago on his debut solo LP. But the story of Olias Of Sunhillow began long before he ventured into his garage/home studio . Olias Of Sunhillow was a UK N. hit and made the Billboard Top 50. An unashamedly romantic solo album that combines grace, taste and power, wrote Yes aficionado Chris Welch in Melody Maker. Welch also saw similarities between its fusion of folk imagery and space and science fiction writer Brian Aldiss’ novels Non-Stop and Hothouse.
Olias Of Sunhillow is the debut studio album of Jon Anderson and was released in 1976. The performance on the album was all only in charge of Jon Anderson. He played every kind of musical instruments by himself. Olias Of Sunhillow is a conceptual album inspired by the writings of Vera Stanley Alder, an American portrait painter and mystic woman which wrote several books on self-help and spirituality and also founded the World Guardian fellowship. Anderson developed the entire story around the idea of an interstellar exodus from a place, a planet named Sunhillow, and he wrote the lyrics around the narrative based on the character of a spaceship’s architect named Olias. In short, Olias Of Sunhillow tells us the story of an alien race and their journey to a new world due to a catastrophe
Jon Anderson is widely known as the lead singer for Yes. He has issued numerous solo albums over the years. Olias Of Sunhillow reached 47 on the Billboard charts in 1976. Song Of Seven reached 143 in 1980 & features Jack Bruce. These albums are making their . David Roe's artwork for "Olias of Sunhillow" is as distinctive and far more detailed than Dean's has been for Yes. I got this album on the day it and those of Squire and Howe came out. The music and artwork did not disappoint, adding another dimension to the unimaginable (to me). But the vinyl disappointed. Surface noise afflicted "Olias of Sunhillow" as it did all Atlantic vinyl of that era. The label's pressing quality improved significantly in the Eighties, only to be unnoticed in the digital/CD revolution
