In 2003, Rolling Stone asked a panel of 271 artists, producers, industry executives and journalists to pick the greatest albums of all time. In 2009, we asked a similar group of 100 experts to pick the best albums of the 2000s. From those results, Rolling Stone created this new list of the greatest albums of all time.

All-Time Greatest Hits. Like his forebear Isaac Hayes, White was not just a deep-voiced crooner, but a talented producer and arranger who'd spent years honing his craft behind the scenes in the industry. And like Hayes, White spent a great deal of time setting up moods on his albums, using lush, sweeping orchestrations to build very gradually to climaxes. Actually, that probably explains a good deal of his effectiveness.

Best debut album of all time. Shame they couldn’t build on their success from Appetite, but the fact that this album still holds up, in my opinion, makes up for it. Best dose of pure rock and roll when it was absolutely necessary at the time.
