Hand on the Torch is the debut album by the jazz-rap group Us3. It received much attention because of its mix of jazz and rap, using live jazz musicians. All samples used on the album are from old Blue Note classics: the most famous being Herbie Hancock's "Cantaloupe Island", used on the track "Cantaloop (Flip Fantasia)", which was recorded with two different music videos. In 2003, The Ultimate Hand on the Torch was released, including many of the songs used as sampling material on Hand on the Torch.

As Us3, Wilkinson and his production partner, Mel Simpson, used the album to fuse jazz and hip-hop, looping legends like Art Blakey, Thelonious Monk and Donald Byrd, with hip, in-demand modern players like Gerard Presencer, Mike Smith and Dennis Rollins.

Hand On The Torch 20th Anniversary Explicit Lyrics. To celebrate the occasion, the album has been expanded to 27 tracks spread over two discs including remixes and non album tracks. The booklet also contains a new essay written by David Field and liner notes from former Blue Note Records President, Bruce Lundvall. Formed in 1992, Us3 is the brainchild of London-based producer Geoff Wilkinson. Alongside former production partner Mel Simpson, the duo created a worldwide sensation with their 1993 debut release.

The resulting album Hand on the Torch subsequently become a global phenomenon. It was the first Blue Note album ever to achieve Platinum status (1,000,000 sales) in the US. The worldwide success of Us3 took everyone by surprise, and proved a point to Geoff.
