This is an extraordinary album! Originally intended as an album exploring the demonic, Eva realised she knew little about angels and failing to find any info, she resorted to reading Billy Graham's Angels whereupon she was miraculously converted, delivered from demon possession and the album suddenly took on a new dimension! Not the usual recording process for a CCM album! Dramatic and theatrical, EVA O here trys to become the post-Goth female MEATLOAF - musically this is eclectic I guess but overall sounds like it's the soundtrack to some Eighties Musical Stage Play - all emotional poles covered, with the music exploring a variety of different clichéd styles. What saves this from joining the realms of Rocky Horror, Little Shop Of Horrors etc. is that she can, when not gently laying her soul bare for all to see, Rock to bring the house down. So in a way this alienates itself from the instant audience who have followed her career thus far, and is too obscure to reach others who may have welcomed it with open cardigans. Not that you can accuse her of selling out stylistically - Gothic Rock always did strive to express itself dramatically, and her voice is so powerful she probably needed a platform like this to full expose it's potential. I can't really slaughter this album. Indeed, tracks like "Children Of The Light" have such rich themes they almost instantly become part of your life. But it is a dated style which seems at odds with CLEOPATRA's general musical direction. Neither can I whole heartedly recommend it. If you're brave enough to seek it out, you'll be surprised just how commercial this is. If you can imagine how far from SUPER HEROINES this is, you could imagine GENESIS P ORRIDGE and SIOUXSIE taking over the JOHN TRAVOLTA and OLIVIA NEWTON JOHN roles in "Grease". No kidding.
