Humble Pie was a British rock music band from 1969-82, best known for its hard-rocking recordings and concert performances during their peak period on A&M records from 1970-1975. The band initially consisted in 1969 of Steve Marriott (formerly of Small Faces; lead vocals, guitar, keyboards), Peter Frampton (from The Herd; lead guitar), Greg Ridley (from Spooky Tooth; bass) and Jerry Shirley (from The Apostolic Intervention; drums).

Released in February 1974, Humble Pie’s seventh studio album, ‘Thunderbox’ was pivotal for the seminal hard rock group led by legendary vocalist and guitarist Steve Marriott. But not in a good way, as it signaled their commercial fall from grace. with 1971’s exuberant ‘Performance: Rockin’ the Fillmore’ live album. But then Frampton quit, promptly signed a solo deal with Humble Pie’s record company, A&M, and while Marriott efficiently replaced him with the more-than-capable Clem Clempson, things would never be the same

Humble Pie’s first single, ‘Natural Born Woman’ (aka ‘Natural Born Boogie’) hit the . Top 10 and led to its debut album, As Safe As Yesterday Is. Humble Pie live, however, was explosive, loud and raucous. Frampton left after the tour, replaced by Dave Clem Clempson, A year later, Humble Pie disbanded. Marriott and Shirley briefly reformed the group in the ’80s but accidents and ill health plagued Marriott and the band. Humble Piewas a transitional album and a harbinger of the band’s new, heavier direction. The material was darker than their previous two efforts, with striking contrasts.

The band were formed by Steve Marriott and Peter Frampton in 1969 and also featured former Spooky Tooth bassist Greg Ridley and Jerry Shirley on drums
