This is *the* version to own. The 7'14" Disco Version contains the horn stab right before the drumbreak, two chunks that both form the basis of Roxanne Shanté - "Bite This", where it was used, albeit slowed down. Ain't We Funkin' Now, has a bit of a dark, driving undertone, probably because of its arrangement and the atypical composition, but still it's an absolutely killer track. For me it works best in the living room and in the car. In the clubs I noticed a few times that a lot of people actually left the dancefloor when this one came on, perhaps because of the above. Ain't We Funkin' Now is still a weird kind of time capsule for me: I was seven years old when it came out and up to this day I feel the same shivers when that slightly haunting vocal intro kicks in. A must have, especially for sample hunters.
