AN ISLAND Documentary by Vincent Moon & Efterklang. A film with the same length as an album, and a film full of performances, experiments and collaborations. Over an intense period of 4 days ed with more than 200 local musicians, kids and their own parents, creating new performances and interpretations of songs from their album Magic Chairs (4AD, Rumraket 2010). It was all filmed by Vincent Moon who same time conducted several filmic and musical experiments with Efterklang as his dedicated playmates. An Island is an unconventional music performance film and an abstract documentary about a band and an island.

Vincent Moon, let it be said, has form in this milieu. From 2006 onwards, the French director’s series of 121 guerilla Concerts à Emporter (Take-Away Shows) included one-take impromptu mini-gigs by everyone from Jens Lekman and Xiu Xiu to Stuart Staples and even REM. A more extensive collaboration with the latter followed after Michael Stipe convinced him to jump on board. eye, you have a heart of coal, my friend. In an interesting promotional move, Efterklang and Moon are offering An Island to anyone who’d care to show it, at what they’re calling private/public screenings – all you have to do is promise not to charge anyone, and ensure at least five people are present at the screening. Beautiful package, beautiful sounds ans music, semi scenario, directed in haze and close ups by vincent moon ; this is a sound and vision trip to some places of efterklang members youth in danish countryside (don t expect to see much of this).
