Yesterday's Children were an American psychedelic rock band formed in Cheshire-Prospect, Connecticut, outside of New Haven, in 1966. The group's earliest release was the psychedelic rock-influenced single "To Be or Not to Be". Though, at first, Yesterday's Children were a standard garage band, they transitioned into a psychedelic proto-heavy metal outfit that released one cult classic album in 1969 before disbanding.

On their fantastic third album, The Suburbs, they aim higher than ever, with Roman numerals and parentheses in the song titles. In their dictionary, suburbs is nowhere near subtlety. But that just adds to the emotional wallop. Their first two discs, 2004’s Funeral and its 2007 sequel, Neon Bible, peaked with songs about scared kids hiding from their parents. But on The Suburbs, they open up to see family life from the parents’ perspective - a much harder trick.
The third album by Arcade Fire was a breakthrough commercially and exposure-wise, for the band. The ‘The Suburbs, Month of May’ 12" was the first single released. The two follow-ups, ‘We Used to Wait’ and ‘Ready to Start’ were the most succesful singles from the album in most countries including the US. The cover (there are eight different versions) shows a typical suburban home with a car parked in front. The car may also be symbolical for the perspective of the singer (and thus the listener) revisiting such a suburb, and reflecting back on his youth.
The Suburbs is the third studio album by Canadian indie rock band Arcade Fire, released on August 2, 2010. The album debuted at No. 1 on the Irish Albums Chart, the UK Albums Chart, the US Billboard 200 chart, and the Canadian Albums Chart.
