Igor and the family took up residence nearby, and he completed Le Rossignol there on 28 March. In April, they were finally able to return to Clarens. By then, the Moscow Free Theatre had gone bankrupt. As a result, Le Rossignol was first performed under Diaghilev's auspices at the Paris Opéra on 26 May 1914, with sets and costumes designed by Alexandre Benois. Stravinsky Conducts Stravinsky: Petrushka, Le Sacre du Printemps (The Rite of Spring). Audio CD. Igor Stravinsky. It has been one hundred years since that riotous night in Paris when Stravinsky's ballet, Le Sacre du Printemps was premiered. Today it is a repertoire staple, and far better known as a concert piece than as a ballet. This ten CD set includes ten recordings of the work, each with its' own point of view.
Stravinsky: Le Sacre du Printemps. Urbański, NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchester. The sound is broad and full, an effect which is only strengthened by the recording and mixing of the album. Together, they bring out the Sacre's cinematic potential, and Urbański summons an immense tone from the Hamburg orchestra - for example on the opening "Les augures printaniers", or the "Rondes printanières".
