Midnight Star is an American group that had a string of hits in the 1980s. The group was formed in 1976 at Kentucky State University by trumpeter Reggie Calloway, vocalist Belinda Lipscomb, calist Melvin Gentry, bassist Kenneth Gant, t Bill Simmons, keyboard player/vocalist Bo Watson and t Jeff Cooper, as a self-contained group. They later added non-KSU student trombonist Vincent Calloway (Reginald's younger brother).

Whats up here? Completely underated release, maybe the best house remix of Midnight Star - Midas Touch I have ever heard - Several remixes in different styles from deep to club house on just one EP. Excellent. Thumbs up!

I'm trying to find evidence for a 1986/87 Australian release of this on either 7" or 12". So far, I haven't found anything. Does anybody have any info?

The A side track on this release is exactly the same as the US 12". The 5:42 on the label is incorrect.

This is certainly a great combo(midas touch from 1983 and stay here by my side from 1986).The band was simply sizzling!

If you ask me, Hell Interface did track B1 on mask500 (The Midas Touch cover being B3--the 3rd track of that same side), as track B1 has all the earmarks of a BoC track. Especially considering that it has much in common with what is generally regarded as the BoC track on mask200, particularly the style and sound of the distorted percussion (another example of this is the B side of the BoC "Aquarius" 7" on skam), the use of children's voices, and the trademark floating and wobbly synths. In contrast, the Midas Touch remake has little in common with any of the BoC catalog. Of course i wouldn't put it past the conspirators of the mask series to try and confuse us by sounding like each other, so who knows. I agree that the original is better in some ways. The Mask500 version is still awesome IMO, mostly because the original version is such good material to work with, and the remake doesn't tamper with it too much. I actually like the melancholy of the remake. Anyway, this is one of my all time favorite records, and I'm surprised it isn't played out more!

My Favorite Song From The Late 80's If I have to choose my favorite song made between 1986 and 1989, this is it, and it's also the last good song ever put out by Midnight Star. By 1987, the Calloway brothers had left the band to form, you guessed it, Calloway. The group quickly bombed and by '92 had died out. This is just another example of band members trying to be slick and greedy. Once the brothers left, Midnight Star bombed out just as well and has never been the same. The Calloway brothers should have stayed on with the band and Midnight Star would have ended up becoming a dynasty group like The Whispers. There's an old saying: if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

A fantastic and uplifting slice of 80's electro soul - with added microwave *ting*. The 'Midas Touch (Acapella Mix)' is a great addition and can be used very effectively on a stripped down funky electro break. Hell Interface covered this for the MASK 500 release - personally I think they got it completely wrong by turning it into a dark, melancholy track - it doesn't work.
