Published /. 04 Jul 2011. Planningtorock is the nom de plume of classically trained violinist turned experimental electronic singer/songwriter Janine Rostron. Born in Bolton, northern England, Rostron departed to Berlin a decade ago, which is where she put out her first, self-released record in 2004 and remains to this day. 2006's Have It All LP fully introduced her brand of warped electronic pop through Chicks On Speed Records, while its follow-up, W, dropped earlier this summer on DFA, with Rostron exploring affected sax, strings and voice to "thrilling" ends.

W is the second solo studio album by English recording artist Planningtorock, released on 23 May 2011 by Rostron Records and DFA Records.

Jam Rostron (formerly Janine), better known by their stage name Planningtorock, is an English electronic musician and record producer who lives in Berlin, Germany. Planningtorock co-wrote the song "Answering Machine" from the album From the Cradle to the Rave by DFA label-mate Shit Robot in 2010. DFA released Rostron's second studio album W on 17 May 2011. Rostron had been working on the album's songs since 2007, eventually writing more than 27 songs. The album included a cover of Arthur Russell's song "Janine. "RA News: Shit Robot goes From The Cradle to the Rave".
