The Go-Betweens were an indie rock band formed in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia in 1977. The band was co-founded and led by singer-songwriters and guitarists Robert Forster and Grant McLennan, who were its only constant members throughout its existence. Drummer Lindy Morrison joined the band in 1980, and its lineup would later expand to include bass guitarist Robert Vickers and t Amanda Brown

The Go-Betweens were one of the most internationally influential indie rock bands from Australia, formed by guitarists Robert Forster (b. 1957) and Grant McLennan (1958-2006) in Brisbane in 1977. After disbanding in 1989, Forster and McLennan reformed the band in 2000 with a new line-up, however, they disbanded for good after McLennan died on May 6, 2006 of a heart attack.

The Go-Betweens were an integral cult band of the 1980s that hailed from Brisbane, Australia. These unreleased tracks come from a "lost" album recorded in 1979 in their hometown. It was previously shelved when a deal with Beserkley Records fell through (the label folded). Other rare gems include two singles and B-sides on the Able Lable from 1978 and 1979. The Go-Betweens changed drastically following these recordings, and most of these songs have never been.

The album draws together music spanning the band's career from their beginnings in Brisbane to their 1989 breakup, including singles, B-sides, songs recorded for broadcast and previously unreleased material. The three albums chart the coming of age of the band, moving from the angular, well-read art punks of the early singles (helpfully collected on one album here) and albums to the more sophisticated, emotionally powerful pop band they had become by the time they recorded the heartbreakingly lovely song "Cattle and Cane" and the near-brilliant Spring Hill Fair.
