Enter is the debut studio album by Dutch symphonic/gothic metal band Within Temptation, released by DSFA Records in 1997. The album prominently features lead singer Sharon den Adel's vocals as well as guitarist Robert Westerholt's gruff death metal growls. Lex Vogelaar, founder of the Dutch death metal band Orphanage, supplied the guitar parts for "Pearls of Light", as well as producing the album, and Orphanage vocalist George Oosthoek performed some of the growls on "Deep Within".

Debut was so good that everyone wondered if the band could release a better successor. The WT is essentially a band of Doom Metal. Mother Earth has evolved considerably over its debut, maintaining its characteristic doom, but with a slightly Faster tempo in some songs.

Enter (Within Temptation album). As of 2004, songs from the album Enter are not performed regularly anymore by Within Temptation. The title track and "Candles" were performed at the major concert at the Java Island in Amsterdam during The Silent Force Tour. Enter" was last played at London in 2005, but "Candles" was played a few times in 2006 and at the Sportpaleis in Antwerp on 9 May 2012, during the 15-year anniversary concert "Elements"; the concert was released in November 2014 as part of the Blu-Ray/CD set called Let Us Burn – Elements & Hydra Live in Concert.

Within Temptation has that same problem. Over in their native homeland, they soon got mainstream airplay when the succesful singles Ice Queen and Mother Earth were released, and when The Silent Force came out, the floodgates were opened. Unstoppable, the band just rolled over the country like a steamroller, playing gigs everywhere and playing for huge crowds. But we are forgetting a part of the history of this band. There was an album before Mother Earth, a gracious disc called Enter. And guess what; if you liked Mother Earth, you will absolutely love this. This disc is completely the opposite of The Silent Force. It is rooted not within symphonics but within gothic and doom metal, more akin to The Gathering, After Forever and such acts rather than Evanescence. There are harsh grunts on this album. There are beautiful instruments on here. Sharon's voice is a pearl of light in a restless blooded sea.
