The cool-toned trumpeter is mostly heard in a quintet with altoist Charlie Mariano, pianist Claude Williamson (his brother), either Max Bennett or Leroy Vinnegar on bass, and Stan Levey or Mel Lewis on drums. The remaining four songs (all Bill Holman compositions) feature a sextet with Holman on tenor, baritonist Jimmy Giuffre, Claude, Vinnegar, and Lewis.

Stu Williamson (May 14, 1933 – October 1, 1991) was an American jazz trumpeter and valve trombonist. Born in Brattleboro, Vermont, Williamson was the younger brother of jazz pianist Claude Williamson. In 1949, he moved to Los Angeles, where he worked with Stan Kenton, Woody Herman, Billy May, Charlie Barnet, and Shelly Manne. He worked often as a session musician until his retirement in 1968. He battled drug addiction for much of his life and died in Studio City, California in 1991.

Stu Williamson (born 5 August 1956, Oadby, Leicestershire, England) is a photographer based in Leicestershire, UK. He grew up in England but has a mix of Scottish and Irish ancestry. From 1978 to 1980, he was drummer for the Scottish pop rock group The Marmalade and performed on their 1978 album Doing It All For You. He then directed his artistic talents towards photography and has continued in this field ever since.
