Metal Machine Music (subtitled The Amine β Ring) is the fifth studio album by American rock musician Lou Reed, released as a double album in July 1975 by RCA Records. A departure from the rest of his catalog, the album features no songs or even recognizably structured compositions, eschewing melody and rhythm for modulated feedback and guitar effects, mixed at varying speeds by Reed

Metal Machine Music is shrouded in mystery in part because Lou Reed made it alone. The nature of the music didn’t require a studio or an engineer, so he recorded it by himself at his Manhattan loft, working late into the night. Reed’s state of mind and thought process during the recording are not known, since there was no one else around during the recording and Reed himself, addled by chronic abuse of methamphetamine, served as an unreliable narrator (in his biography Lou Reed: A Life, Anthony DeCurtis called MMM a hymn to speed ). All of which left an opening for stories to proliferate.

Artist: Lou Reed, Zeitkratzer. Item Condition: New and unplayed.

Reed's sixth solo album, Metal Machine Music was released in 1975, five years after the dispersal of the Velvet Underground, and it represented a new way of thinking about reality that implied a new kind of relationship between sound, composer and listener, involving a disgusted rejection of his superficial public image and a typically argumentative testing of what was possible in rock. music in terms of execution, comprehension and conception

But confronting Metal Machine Music from front to back in one sitting is an experience that's both brutal and numbing. It's hard to say what Lou Reed had in mind when he made Metal Machine Music, and Reed has done little to clarify the issue over the years, though he summed it up quite pointedly in an interview in which he said, "Well, anyone who gets to side four is dumber than I a. For the record, I did get to side four.

First of all, let's be perfectly clear and honest from the get-go: this is not rock or even metal - this is noise. There is now a genre of "art music" called noise, which focuses on dissonance and creating "noise" music outside of the realms of musical form.

Metal Machine Music (sometimes abbreviated MMM) is an album by Lou Reed. It was originally released as a two-disc LP by RCA Records in 1975. It was reissued on a single compact disc by BMG in 1998 and again by Buddah Records in 2000. As a radical departure from the rest of Reed's catalog, Metal Machine Music is generally considered to be either a joke, a grudging fulfillment of a contractual obligation, or an early example of noise music. Lou Reeds contract-breaking record. Wondering why people rate this higher than 2 stars, really. It was created to suck, so Lou followed his part of the deal with RCA, but only saddled them up with an expensive trojan horse of a release.

Trojan horse/ white elephant confusion apart.... someone must want this record - it's been reissued at least 22 times and it's been covered and played live too (by Zeitkratzer). Not really 'created to suck' either - but it might have been created to give John Cale a headache. A lot of ppl seem to make a common mistake about stuff like this: "I don't get it... which means nobody else gets it either". Definite 6 star release imo.
