A Tribe Called Quest is an American hip hop group, formed in 1985. They have released six studio albums, five compilations, sixteen singles and two extended plays. The group is made up of rapper/main producer Q-Tip (Kamaal Ibn John Fareed, formerly Jonathan Davis), the late rapper Phife Dawg (Malik Taylor) and DJ/co-producer Ali Shaheed Muhammad. Phife Dawg was only persuaded to join when a fourth member, rapper Jarobi White, joined the group

A Tribe Called Quest are perhaps hip hop's most fondly thought-of group, with an iconic sound and a very special place in rap's Golden Age. With production from Q-Tip and J-Dilla amongst others, here is some of their best-loved material in instrumental form. With this second in the series featuring rare and unreleased instrumentals

A Tribe Called Quest was formed in 1988, though both Q-Tip (b. Jonathan Davis) and Phife (b. Malik Taylor) had grown up together in Queens. Q-Tip met DJ Ali Shaheed Muhammad while at high school and, after being named by the Jungle Brothers (who attended the same school), the trio began performing. Signed to Jive Records by 1989, A Tribe Called Quest released their first album, People's Instinctive Travels and the Paths of Rhythm, one year later. Much like De La Soul, Tribe looked more to jazz as well as '70s rock for their sample base - "Can I Kick It?" plundered Lou Reed's classic "Walk on the Wild Side" and made it viable in a hip-hop context. No matter how solid their debut was, second album The Low End Theory outdid all expectations and has held up as perhaps the best hip-hop LP of all time.

A Tribe Called Quest. It's certainly a fine set, full of their trademark musically rich backing tracks (enhanced, this time round, with a greater reliance on live instrumentation), conscious lyrics and distinctive, on-point vocal delivery.

Yo Jarobi, on the Tribe Called Quest documentary, Q-Tip mentioned you had verses written for Low End Theory that ended up getting scrapped. Any chance those still exist somewhere? постоянная ссылка.

OK. You are minutes away from monetizing your first tracks. I'm the biggest Tribe fan so it brings me a lot of pleasure to drop this mix. I haven't followed their solo acts much, but I watched them like a hawk growing up. In fact, the first piece of music I personally got my own hands on was their first album from the public library. I can talk all day about this group, its emotional for me in fact, because my fav. genre is hip-hop and after midnight marauders, hip-hop split into underground and pop, and I found both styles were trying too hard. A Tribe Called Quest gave it national attention once they made Nuclear Cleaners the back drop for their Check The Rhime video. Through the eyes of a 16-year-old, seeing everything that the streets had to offer from drug deals to murders, the one good thing I got from hanging out on the boulevard was a rap resume. In the midst of all the misgivings and societal ills, I earned a reputation for BARS that eventually gained the attention of Q-Tip, the artist
