Tink dropped her first mixtape, Winter's Diary, in 2012 when she was still in high school. She followed it up with a series of releases which made her a local star in her native Chicago. Tich's big break came when Timbaland got wind of her work, after being introduced by producers Da Internz, resulting in a recording contract with Epic Records via the super producer's Mosley Music Group. In November 2014, Timbaland released an alternate version of Jay Z and Rick Ross' "Movin' Bass" that featured Tink, making her a trending topic. Tink switches between rapping and singing in the cut throughout the song. I'm in a totally different mindset when I'm singing," she told Complex. When I'm rapping, like a turn up song, I'm thinking about what the people want to hear, this is what they're going to like. When I'm singing, I'm like telling my story. I'm not worried if people like it, I'm just trying to be truthful.

Her debut studio album had been scheduled to be released in 2015 and was preceded by the single "Ratchet Commandments". Timbaland made headlines in 2015 by indicating at SXSW that Aaliyah had appeared to him and described Tink as "the on. Tink would later perform an unreleased track that samples Aaliyah's "One in a Million" Epic scheduled a July 2015 release for Think Tink but Timbaland decided to delay the project.

It’s been so fun to watch Tink emerge. Ever since her Timbaland co-sign, plenty of people have been hailing her as the next Aaliyah or the next Lauryn Hill, but watching her rap at the beginning of her first-ever interview, I was always more struck by the way she didn’t feel the need to imitate either of those artists. She’s been hacking her way through the comparisons and honing her live show for several months now, and today she put out Ratchet Commandments, the latest of several collaborations with Timbaland. And I have to be honest - I’m disappointed.

Tink has released the first single from her forthcoming debut album. Ratchet Commandments’ is exactly what it says on the tin, detailing Tink’s no-bullshit thots over a throwback beat by Timbaland. Stream the single below, via Fake Shore Drive. Tink’s forthcoming debut is one of the albums we actually give a shit about this year.
