The Ruts, Ruts DC are an English reggae-influenced punk rock band, notable for the 1979 UK Top 10 hit "Babylon's Burning", and an earlier single "In a Rut", which was not a hit but was highly regarded and regularly played by BBC Radio 1 disc jockey John Peel. The Ruts were formed on 18 August 1977 and played their first gig at the Target pub in Northolt, Middlesex.

Along with one Clarence Baker, he managed seminal reggae band Misty In Roots and meeting him round at Malcolm Owens place, circa 1977, was integral to The Ruts moving forward. Along with Misty and Clarence, he started the People Unite label that would host our first single In A Rut and immersed us in a multicultural scene that would continue to influence our music through the Jah War single and beyond. He mystically re-appeared as we ourselves resurfaced around our Rhythm Collision volume 2 phase and was a constant support and positive critic. From Malcolm's squat to Nelson Mandela's house via Fela Kutis African Shrine in Lagos, his stories will be sadly missed.
