Popcorn" is an early synth-pop instrumental, composed by Gershon Kingsley in 1969 and first appearing on his album Music to Moog By. It was recorded at the Audio Fidelity Records label in New York City. The title may refer to the short staccato or sharp "popping" sound used, or to pop music and its being "corny", . The title is generally written as one word, although some single sleeves (such as the one illustrated) present it as two words, "Pop Corn".
Hot Butter was an American instrumental cover band fronted by the keyboard player Stan Free. The other band members were Dave Mullaney, John Abbott, Bill Jerome, Steve Jerome, and Danny Jordan. They were best known for their 1972 cover of the Moog synthpop instrumental, "Popcorn", originally recorded by its composer, Gershon Kingsley, in 1969. The track became an international hit, selling a million copies in France, 250,000 in the United Kingdom, and over two million globally.

The material from More Hot Butter delivers more of the same. This time, the highlights are a catchy cover of "Percolator," a bouncy novelty very close in style to "Popcorn," and "Sounds," a danceable slice of electro-pop driven by hand claps and some insistent drumming. Despite these occasional strong tunes, neither album delivers anything as memorable or durable as "Popcorn," and both suffer from an overload of gimmicky throwaway tunes.
