DeShannon 's most determined effort to address the adult pop market, whether at the instigation of herself or her label, resulted in her weakest album up to that point. Devoted largely to querulous interpretations of standards and easy listening tunes, it found the folk-rock innovator of a couple years back losing any sense of purposeful direction.

She was one of the first female singer songwriters of the rock 'n' roll period. Sharon Myers adopted the name Jackie DeShannon, believed to be an Irish ancestor. Record company executives at Liberty Records thought the name Sharon Myers wouldn't sell records.

Jackie DeShannon is best remembered for two 1960s anthems: "Put a Little Love in Your Heart" and the Bacharach-David "What the World Needs Now Is Love. Her diverse talents and tastes not always easily marketable, the former Sharon Lee Myers of Hazel, Kentucky, has sometimes slipped through the cracks of public perception. In the '70s, DeShannon's output included a couple of image-remaking discs for Atlantic. She entered a brief but impressive creative pairing with Van Morrison that resulted not only in tracks issued under her name, but also in key contributions to his Hard Nose the Highway (1973).
