What's more, there's only a small subset of the historical performance movement that has taken up Praetorius and the other composers of dance music of his time. Despite the title of the album, much more is represented than just Praetorius and his Terpsichore collection

The Praetorius Consort presents an interesting international collection of dance music, some well known and some more obscure, and performs with high energy, precision, brilliance, and clarity. I discovered music of the Renaissance and Early Baroque (into which period Praetorius falls) as a kid in 1965 when I heard the music on a classical music station. Over the years, I've bought countless recordings and attended scores of concerts. This recording is alright, but I am not fond of some of the arrangements by Christopher Ball.
