Showing an admirable lack of concern about flooding the market, Bayside have put out both their new studio album, SHUDDER, and this crisply played and recorded LIVE AT THE BAYSIDE SOCIAL CLUB on the same day. The show, played at New York’s SIR Studios before lucky members of the Bayside Social Club (the band’s official fan club), is composed of 13 tracks from all over Bayside’s discography.

What this gets back to is that the album is basically a ‘Best Of’ compilation. The sound and mixing is very clear, sending most cuts further towards their studio versions, rather than their true live sound. However, the best of both worlds approach is often advantageous, especially when concerning lead singer Anthony Raneri. Those expecting a fun, loose and gritty bar gig are likely to be disappointed to some extent. However, those looking for a nice summation of Bayside over the three year period of their first three full-length releases will be pleased with the collection of songs on offer here.

The album had been leaked onto various file-sharing sites earlier in the month on September 5, 2008. A week before the official release onSeptember 22, 2008, the album was put up to stream on the band's official MySpace page.

BAYSIDE decided to take a different, sunny approach to recording this time around, opting to record the masterpiece, their fourth full-length studio album, in a location quite different than what they were used to. As a result, the Santa Monica-based Red Bull Studios was chosen as the venue and the album was recorded over a six week period of time with producer Dave Schiffman (Weezer, Jimmy Eat World, Johnny Cash). Although the band recorded on the left coast as opposed to their usual right, the method ironically brought BAYSIDE back to a familiar place Alongside the release of Shudder was the release of Live At The Bayside Social Club, a collection of recordings from their August 2008 performance in New York City. The live album includes songs from each of their studio albums and is a must have for Bayside fans everywhere who crave hearing their high energy live show between tours.
