Bo Diddley" is a rhythm and blues and rock and roll song first recorded and sung by Bo Diddley at the Universal Recording Studio in Chicago and released on the Chess Records subsidiary, Checker Records in 1955. It became an immediate hit single that stayed on the R&B charts for a total of 18 weeks, 2 of those weeks at and seven more weeks than its flipside (the B-side, "I'm a Man"). It was the first recording to introduce African rhythms into rock and roll directly by using the patted juba beat.

On November 20, 1955, Diddley appeared on the popular television program The Ed Sullivan Show. The album title Surfing with Bo Diddley derived from his influence on surf guitarists rather than surfing per se.  .

It probably has influences from the West African coast Success in the 1950s and 1960s. On November 20, 1955, Bo Diddley appeared on the popular television program The Ed Sullivan Show Bo Diddley's hit singles continued in the 1950s and 1960s: "Pretty Thing" (1956), "Say Man" (1959), and "You Can't Judge a Book by the Cover" (1962). He also released numerous albums, including Bo Diddley Is a Gunslinger and Have Guitar, Will Travel. These bolstered his self-invented legend. Between 1958 and 1963, Checker Records released eleven full-length Bo Diddley albums.

To be sure, not everything great that he did is here by any means - a bunch of great singles are missing, such as the crushing boogie of "Diddly Wah Diddy," and it has few of his really funny, really gonzo, really out-there singles (for those, turn to the superb, absolutely essential Chess . double-disc set The Story of Bo Diddley)
