The Invisible Invasion is the third full-length album by The Coral. It was released on 23 May 2005 in the United Kingdom and entered at No. 3 in the album charts (see 2005 in music). The production is by Geoff Barrow and Adrian Utley of Portishead, and most critics have described this album as a more stripped-down effort than their previous material. It was released in the United States on 30 August 2005 by Columbia Records. James Skelly – vocals, guitar, arrangements.
Album · 2005 · 12 Songs. Produced by Portishead’s Geoff Barrow and Adrian Utley, this fourth record sees the Wirrall peninsula’s premier psych-crusaders nudging their established formula into bold, interesting new places. Yes, in the familiar drum kicks and jangling effortlessness of In the Morning they nod to both the nostalgia of classic Merseybeat and lead songwriter James Skelly’s own early triumphs

The Coral's third proper album (they also released a mini-album in the frenetic burst of activity that followed their debut) offers what looks like an interesting recipe. The three key ingredients are: production from Portishead's Geoff Barrow and Adrian Utley; the band's cheery sing-along pop stylings, as typified on So Long Ago; and the tendency of their singer, James Skelly, to hint at disquieting themes in his lyrics. What you're hoping is that Barrow and Utley will conjure the perfect sonic backdrop for Skelly's lyrics to contrast cleverly with the music
More depth, better production, stellar songs performed with high levels of vigor and commitment - it adds up to the group's best album to date. Despite a work rate that might burn out a lesser group, the Coral show no signs of going away anytime soon and if they can keep making records this good, lovers of tuneful and intelligent pop music should be very glad.
All tracks recorded at Monnow Valley Studio except track 5, recorded at Elevator Studios, Liverpool.
The least adventurous and most disappointing Coral album to date. If you like the retro sound mixed lightly with todays sound, then " Invisible Invasion" is a must have. 0 of 0 users found this helpful.
It’s clear something needs to change, and ‘The Invisible Invasion’ sees The Coral attempting to expand their range. One of the album’s brightest moments, ‘Arabian Sands’, is inspired by a Salvador Dali painting, but the artist’s influence is more crucial for the whole of ‘The Invisible Invasion’. Dali’s position in art history is forever hobbled by the weight of his eccentric personality (how it must hurt to that he was being surreal just for the sake of it.
