The Legacy is the 1987 debut studio album by American thrash metal band Testament. It was released on April 21, 1987. Prior to the album's recording in 1986, Testament was known as Legacy. Steve Zetro Souza is a fire breathing, venom spitting thrash metal legend. He is a veteran of the San Fran Ruthie’s Inn scene, the original birthplace of thrash and along with Eric Peterson helped to form Testament, originally called Legacy. When Steve got the call to join the most powerful and popular band in the scene, EXODUS he recommended his buddy (and current Dublin Death Patrol co-vocalist) Chuck Billy to join Legacy and the band changed their name to Testament

The Legacy is the one album by Testament you must own. Take the cries of copycat, whiffle thrash or whatever invective that has been hurled at the band over these past thirty years with a grain of salt. If you want to know where to venture after you're done exploring the big four (possibly even during your thrash 101 lecture), one could do much worse than The Legacy. Previously known as Legacy, Testament released the album that would bear their former name, "The Legacy", and would also be a staple among thrash metal fans the world over. When the band was known as Legacy, their previous singer, Steve "Zetro" Souza, is more gruff, nasally, and when he uses more energy, more like shrieking.

HATRIOT, the new San Francisco Bay Area thrash metal band led by former EXODUS and LEGACY (pre-TESTAMENT) frontman Steve "Zetro" Souza, will release its debut album, "Heroes Of Origin" on January 25 via Germany's Massacre Records. The CD was recorded with producer Juan Urteaga (MACHINE HEAD, EXODUS, TESTAMENT) and features guest appearances BY TESTAMENT 's Chuck Billy and MACHINE HEAD 's Phil Demmel Asked why he thinks thrash metal has enjoyed something of a revival in more recent years, Zetro told Über Röck, "You know, I get asked this a lot, and I think it is because the first wave of thrash came and went so fast. I mean, it started in the mid-'80s and was gone by 1991 or so. The older bands still have something to say, and I feel that's why they are still able to put out great music so many years later.

In the 35 years since its inception, Testament has had numerous lineup changes, and Peterson has been the only constant member. Billy replaced original singer Steve "Zetro" Souza in 1986, prior to the recording of their first studio album, The Legacy, and has been a member of the band since. Peterson and Billy are the only band members to appear on every album. Live At Dynamo Open Air 1997 (2019). Playlist: Metal (2018). First Strike Still Deadly (2018). Brotherhood of the Snake (2016).
